Ministry of Health Approves TOSHPA’s Nurse-Led Diabetes Clinic at Bo Government Hospital
Bo, Eastern Sierra Leone — The Ministry of Health and Sanitation has officially approved the nurse-led Diabetes Clinic established by The Organisation of Sierra Leonean Healthcare Professionals Abroad (TOSHPA) at the Bo Government Hospital.
This milestone marks a major step toward improving diabetes care and management in Sierra Leone, particularly in the Southern and Eastern regions where access to specialized non-communicable disease (NCD) services remains limited.
The new clinic will provide screening, counseling, medication management, and patient education, all coordinated by trained nurses under the supervision of TOSHPA’s health leadership and hospital medical officers.
TOSHPA’s Chairperson, Mimi Kona Rogers, joined senior officials from the Ministry of Health and the Bo Government Hospital management team during the site approval and inspection visit. The Ministry commended TOSHPA’s collaborative approach and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community-based healthcare delivery across Sierra Leone.
“This approval is more than an endorsement — it’s a validation of the power of nurse-led innovation in improving chronic disease care,” said Mimi Kona Rogers, TOSHPA Chair. “We are proud to partner with the Ministry of Health and Bo Government Hospital in bringing accessible diabetes care closer to the people.”
The clinic is expected to begin full operations in the coming weeks, providing ongoing support to diabetic patients through routine checkups, lifestyle education, and community outreach programs.
TOSHPA continues to advocate for equitable healthcare and sustainable health systems through partnership, innovation, and patient-centered care.
