Official Launch of Sierra Leone’s Only Nurse-Led Diabetes Clinic
Bo, Sierra Leone — The Organisation of Sierra Leonean Healthcare Professionals Abroad (TOSHPA) has officially launched Sierra Leone’s first and only nurse-led Diabetes Clinic, marking a historic moment for the nation’s healthcare landscape.
The launch event was led by TOSHPA Diaspora Officer and Kadiatu Jalloh, who joined local health leaders, community representatives, and hospital staff to celebrate this milestone in non-communicable disease (NCD) care.
This pioneering initiative reflects TOSHPA’s commitment to empowering nurses as frontline health innovators and expanding access to chronic disease management services. The clinic will provide screening, treatment, education, and long-term follow-up for individuals living with diabetes — a growing health concern in Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the event, TOSHPA’s Diaspora Officer emphasized the importance of local ownership and professional leadership in healthcare innovation:
“This clinic stands as a symbol of what collaboration between the diaspora and local health professionals can achieve — practical, sustainable care that truly serves our people,” said Kadiatu Jalloh.
The clinic, established within Bo Government Hospital, operates under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation and aligns with Sierra Leone’s national NCD strategy.
With this launch, TOSHPA continues to demonstrate how nurse-led initiatives can transform community health outcomes and promote equitable, accessible care across the country.
